2011 Mississippi River Flooding Update #1

Mississippi River Forecasts

As we shift our river flooding focus toward the Mississippi River, above is all the river points that are on either side of the Mississippi along the Iowa portion. Everywhere from McGregor on south, the date of April 18th is the farthest the forecast goes, there is a very good liklihood the river will continue rising in all locations south of McGregor after the 18th. McGregor’s forecast crests early on the 18th but may stay near its crest past the forecast date. Moderate to Major flooding is likely along the Mississippi (sans Lansing and Keokuk), with heavy precipitation possible this will lengthen and possibly raise the levels more above what is forecasted here.

ALSO OF NOTE: The West Fork Des Moines River at Humboldt and Estherville remain above flood stage as does the Big Sioux River at Akron and Hawarden in northwestern Iowa.
