SEVERE WEATHER SUNDAY: The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe weather for Sunday into Sunday night for the southeastern counties of the state, roughly SE of a Clinton to Centerville line. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with the storms that roll through the area. The rest of the state will have a chance to see some showers and thunderstorms from this system beginning late tonight (Saturday) into Sunday morning and then again Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. (even though the QPF chart shows almost no precip in the state for the next 5 days)

NEXT WEEKEND: Looking ahead past 7 days into voo-doo, another storm system similiar to the one coming Sunday into Monday will come Saturday into Sunday of next weekend, bringing another chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time. Severe weather could be possible, but it’s WAY too early to determine that at this time. We should know more in the coming days as it gets with the 7 day forecast.

FLOODING: River flooding continues along the Upper Des Moines River Valley, the Big Sioux River and the Mississippi River. Rainfall this weekend and again next weekend could prolong flooding concerns. The NWS in LaCrosse WI issued a statement in which depending on precipitation over the next few weeks, the Mississippi River could be near or above flood stage for the rest of this month and possibly into May. We’ll see on that in coming weeks.
