SEVERE TODAY: There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight across the entire state of Iowa. All modes of severe weather will be possible with the best chances of tornadoes staying across the southern and southwestern counties closer to where the warm front will be situated. Elsewhere large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats. The main window looks to be between 1pm and 11pm today with most of the showers and thunderstorms moving out of the state after Midnight. If the warm front situates itself further to the south the main severe weather threat will likely shift into extreme southern Iowa and northern Missouri, if it’s further to the north, central into east central and southeast Iowa will be the target. It will all depend on the front!

COLDER END: Temperatures will fall back to at or below average following this storm system with chances of some rain and or snow this weekend with another system moving in. It’s too early to tell if there will be any accumulations of snow with this, but it’s likely with the warm ground, it will take awhile for any snow that might fall to stick.

FLOODING: River flooding is becoming an increasing threat with the snowmelt continuing over Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas. The Big Sioux River is flooding currently with some road closures along the Iowa South Dakota border. More rivers across the northern counties of the state are also now under river flood warnings, with more on the way. This will be a threat for at least another few weeks, possibly well into April.
