RAIN CHANCES: Today begins with a possible chance of showers and an isolated thunderstorm. This won’t be an all day rain and not everyone will see rain. Amounts will be light as well, with many locations that get rain getting a tenth or so. This is expected to continue through the weekend with Saturday being the driest of the next few days. Another system will move in by the end of the weekend which will bring more chances of showers and thunderstorms to the state. This will end by Tuesday with cooler conditions following in the wake (possibly some wet snowflakes or cold rain).

LION ENDING: March looks like it might end as a roaring lion with the GFS model showing two large storm systems in the final week of March. If these pan out, this could bring the first real severe weather threat to the state for 2011. (NOTE: Iowa can get severe weather in March, so it wouldn’t be unheard of) One storm would come March 27th and another on the 30th. We’ll see if these show up on any future runs so that they might be looked at closer.
