Precipitation Moving into Sub-Freezing Air

Radar at 2:49am

The band of precipitation with embedded thunder and lightning is beginning to move into air that is below the freezing mark across the far eastern and northern counties of the state. So far, the heaviest precipitation has stayed south of Interstate 80 where readings are in the mid to upper 30s. Now, however it is moving into the colder areas where some freezing rain and sleet will be possible. A light glaze of ice is possible north of a Quad Cities to Waterloo to Mason City line between now and 6am before readings should climb above the freezing mark.

To the south, light to moderate rain with embedded thunderstorms will continue, with some of the stronger storms possibly producing some small hail.
