Wind Chill Warning Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Wind Chill Warning effect at 6pm Tuesday evening until Noon on Wednesday for the following counties, Clay, Lyon, OBrien, Sioux, Dickinson and Osceola. A Wind Chill Watch is in effect from 6pm Tuesday evening until Noon Wednesday for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Ida, Plymouth and Woodbury counties. Strong winds on the back side of the second storm system that will be producing the heavy snow across the southeastern half of the state along with bitter arctic temperatures will create wind chill values between -25° and -45° late Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Actual temperatures will be in the single digits and teens below zero. This will lead to frostbite and hypothermia in less than ten minutes if precautions aren’t taken. The wind will also be blowing and drifting the snow around which may create near blizzard conditions in some locations.
