The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 6pm Monday evening until 6pm Tuesday evening for the following counties, Lyon, Osceola, Dickinson, Sioux, O’Brien, Clay, Plymouth, Cherokee, Buena Vista, Woodbury and Ida. Snowfall accumulations of 5-7 inches will be possible with snow beginning on Sunday night and lasting until Tuesday. Wind will blow the snow around and will cause wind chills to drop into the teens and 20s below zero.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning for Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Palo Alto, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Pocahontas, Humboldt and Wright. Snowfall amounts in these areas are expected to be in the range of 6-8″ with isolated higher amounts. Snow will begin late on Sunday night and last through Tuesday. Along with the snow, strong winds of 15-30mph will create blowing and drifting snow. Near blizzard conditions will be possible as well.
More watches and advisories are expected to be issued over the next 24 hours or so across more of the state.
