All of Iowa, Winter Weather

Morning AFD from NWS Des Moines

From the NWS Des Moines’ Area Forecast Discussion on the possible snow event beginning Monday and lasting through Wednesday of next week.

MODELS BEGINNING TO COME CLOSER IN THEIR SOLUTIONS AND WOULD PUT THE SOUTHEAST HALF OR SO OF IOWA UNDER THE GUN FOR TUESDAY INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS. IN ADDITION…THE PRESSURE GRADIENT AROUND THE DEVELOPING LOW AND RATHER STRONG 1050MB HIGH IN THE DAKOTAS WILL PRODUCE QUITE WINDY CONDITIONS WHICH MAY LEAD TO NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS DURING THIS TIME. STILL MUCH THAT CAN CHANGE BUT THINGS ARE CERTAINLY SHAPING UP TO BE QUITE DICEY FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING…ESPECIALLY IN THE SOUTHEAST HALF OR SO OF THE CWA. WILL HIGHLIGHT POTENTIAL WINTER STORM AND DETERIORATING CONDITIONS DURING THIS TIME IN THE HWO. LITTLE CHANGE TO FORECAST BEYOND THIS POINT AS VERY COLD AIR SPILLS INTO THE STATE ON WEDNESDAY FOLLOWED BY GRADUALLY MODERATION INTO THE LATER HALF OF THE WORK WEEK.

It should be noted that Winter Storm Watches could be issued as early as later today or early Sunday morning across portions of southern and southeastern Iowa for this event.
