The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which goes into effect at Midnight tonight and will be in effect until 6pm Monday evening for the following counties, Chickasaw, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardin, Humboldy, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Tama, Webster, Winnebago, Worth and Wright. There is also a Winter Weather Advisory that goes into effect at Midnight tonight and lasts until 9pm Monday night for the following counties, Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Winneshiek, Benton, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones and Linn.
Snow is expected to begin moving into the state later this evening and through the overnight hours. Accumulations will be between 2-5″ in the northeastern sections of the state with 1-3″ across the central counties. Also there is a chance some of the precipitation across the southwestern half of the state may mix with some sleet or freezing rain as temperatures will be climbing close to the freezing mark across those areas. If that is the case, ice accumulations are expected to remain under a tenth of an inch in those areas. Freezing Rain Advisories may be issued later tonight or early tomorrow morning if the threats grows.
