The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which goes into effect at 3pm this afternoon and will last until 6pm Tuesday afternoon for the following counties, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Van Buren and Washington. Snowfall amounts in these locations will vary between 3-6″ with the heavier amounts off to the west and south. Some blowing and drifting of snow is possible as well. To the north and northeast of these advisory areas, there will be snow accumulations of 1-3″ through Tuesday (which isn’t enough to issue an advisory for such a long duration event). Travel conditions will be impacted, especially in areas where heavy snow is expected to fall or is occurring this morning.
