Here are the precipitation figures for 2010 for selected cities across the state and the midwest. It was a wet year once again across the state with every city sans Mason City seeing a rainfall surplus once again. Numerous locations saw 10″ surplusses, with Des Moines having the greatest amount with a 17 inch surplus. But the biggest record of all is not shown on the image above. It is the amount of rain that fell at Lake Rathbun Dam this year, 66.87″. That amount is the second highest yearly total ever recorded in the state of Iowa (preliminary). Only the 74+” total at Muscatine in 1851 is higher. Across the state, it was the second wettest year in 138 years of records. Only 1993 was wetter by an statewide average of 3+ inches.
