It’s not your average late December night across the state of Iowa this early morning. Temperatures across the state are above freezing with gusty southeasterly winds blowing warm air over the cold snowpack. This is leading to a lot of dense fog across the state, with visibilities dropping under a quarter mile in some places. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through the day on Thursday and into Friday for the eastern counties of the state.
Even with temperatures above the freezing mark, some bridges and overpasses may have a thin glaze of ice on them, so anyone travelling tonight into the morning hours Thursday should be aware of that. Temperatures will remain above freezing at least through the day Thursday across the entire state and through Friday across the eastern half of the state before the cold front moves through Friday evening dropping temperatures back to typical levels for this time of year.
