Plethora of Warnings and Advisories

Just in!, The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a BLIZZARD WARNING, which goes into effect at 6am Saturday morning and will remain in effect until Midnight Sunday morning for the following counties, Franklin, Humboldt, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Wright, Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Hancock, Kossuth, Winnebago and Worth. These same counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory beginning at 9pm tonight and lasting until 6am tomorrow morning before the Blizzard Warning takes effect. They also issued a Winter Weather Advisory beginning at 9am Saturday Morning and lasting until Midnight Sunday morning for the following counties, Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Audubon, Boone, Calhoun, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Sac, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, Wayne and Webster.

Snowfall amounts as seen in earlier posts will be roughly between 3-6″ in the Blizzard Warning locations, with lighter amounts further to the south. Areas south of I-80 may only see an inch or less of snow. The wind will pick up Saturday morning into the afternoon which will create blowing and drifting snow, especially in the blizzard warning areas where travel will become hazardous quite quickly. More Blizzard Warnings or advisories will likely be issued later tonight where a Blizzard Watch was issued only an hour ago.
