The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 9am Wednesday morning until Midnight Thursday morning for the following counties, Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Hancock, Cerro Gorod, Wright, Franklin, Butler and Bremer. There is also a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from Noon Wednesday until Midnight Thursday morning for the following counties, Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, Floyd and Chickasaw. There is also a Winter Weather advisory in effect from 9am until 9pm Wednesday evening for Lyon County in NW Iowa. The main threat will be from freezing rain and sleet, although the accumulations of sleet and ice will be small, it will cause slippery travel conditions on the busiest travel day of the year. The main event will be in the mid-morning through mid-afternoon hours across the NW and NC counties, with late morning throughout the afternoon across the NE counties of the state. The rest of the state will likely see the precipitation in the form of rain, but that could change in later statements from the NWS.
