All of Iowa

A Few Afternoon Storms

A few thunderstorms have developed along the southbound cold front that is currently extending across the southern half of the state. The storms are extending from the Quad Cities to near Oskaloosa. They are moving slowly to the SE. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 7pm this evening for Des Moines, Henry, Lee and Louisa counties in far SE Iowa for the threat of storms becoming severe. The main threats would be large hail and damaging winds, but the best chances look to be east of the state in Illinois. Much drier air is pushing into the state this afternoon behind the front. Dewpoints were in the 50s in Minnesota this afternoon, whereas I don’t think the dewpoints will get that low in Iowa, low 60s is where they will be tonight and into Thursday statewide. Next chance of rain returns Friday (after the storms in SE Iowa this afternoon)
