All of Iowa, Severe Weather

The Latest Outlook for SVR Weather Today

Severe Weather Outlook for Wednesday (First Outlook)

There is a moderate risk of severe weather for this afternoon and tonight across extreme northeastern Iowa northward into Minnesota and Wisconsin. This may be extended further into Iowa in later outlooks. A slight risk surrounds that and covers nearly the rest of the state. All severe weather threats will be possible this afternoon and tonight. Large hail, including some that could be larger than Eggs/Limes (2 inches in diameter). Damaging straight line winds of up to 70mph, and tornadoes (some of them could be strong/significant). The warm temperatures coupled with high humidity will lead to instability in the atmosphere by this afternoon. Thunderstorms are expected to fire along a cold front that is forecast to move into the state at that time. The best chances of severe weather (including the strong/significant tornadoes) may occur just to the north in Minnesota and Wisconsin, closer to the low pressure center, but some could also form along the trailing cold front into Iowa. The storms will likely becoming more of a wind and hail event after sunset as the storms continue moving through the eastern half of the state. More details will be posted later today on this situation.

Anybody travelling to the Twin Cities or into western Wisconsin should keep up to date on the latest severe weather in those areas, especially by mid-day when storms should begin firing in those areas.
