A Heat Advisory is in effect today for the southern portions of the state. The following counties are in the Heat Advisory from 10am-9pm, Cedar, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren and Washington.
The following counties are in the Heat Advisory from Noon-8pm, Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Audubon, Cass, Clarke, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Guthrie, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, Wayne, Fremont, Mills, Montgomery and Page.
The following counties are in the Heat Advisory from 1pm-9pm, Benton, Buchanan, Clinton, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones and Linn.
Temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 80s to mid 90s across the southern regions of the state by this afternoon. Along with dewpoints that are expected to be in the 70s, heat indices will surpass 100°-110° in many locations. Remember to take it easy if you are to be outside for long periods of time, take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to supress the heat by late afternoon into the evening hours, although some of the storms will likely be severe.
