Flooding the Threat This Upcoming Week

With the storms, gone (except for a few isolated ones this afternoon), river flooding will be the main threat across the state this week. Numerous rivers are or will overflow their banks, some as high as major flood stage. The Des Moines River at Fort Dodge, Stratford and the Boone River at Webster City are experiencing major flooding right now. Major Flooding is forecast on the Des Moines River at the two forecast points in Des Moines (2nd Avenue and SE 6th) At those points, the current forecast calls for the 4th and 3rd highest crests on record at those locations. The Saylorville Resveroir upstream, is expected to go over the emergency spillway sometime early this week. Anyone expecting to go near Saylorville Lake this week or for Independence Day Weekend, will probably have to make other plans.
