If you didn’t like what you saw earlier this evening across the eastern 3/4ths of the state, you probably won’t like what’s coming down the pike for later this afternoon and tonight (Saturday). A slight risk of severe weather has been outlooked for the entire state of Iowa, with an enhanced risk in NW Iowa (where they were hard hit earlier with major tornado damage). Another complex of thunderstorms are expected to develop and roll into the state mainly after sunset. Damaging straight line winds and large hail will be the main threats from the storms. But there is good news in all of this, there is no and I repeat NO severe weather risks outlooked after this point at least through Friday of next week. Temperatures will be comfortable with highs in the upper 70s and lower to middle 80s with nighttime lows a few degrees either side of 60.
Before that and the storms later this afternoon, it will be VERY HOT, with temperatures well into the 90s in many places across the state. With dewpoints in the mid 70s, heat indices will easily surpass 100 in a number of locales. A Heat Advisory is in effect in SE Iowa from 1-7pm Saturday.
