All of Iowa, Severe Weather

Active Morning Continues

Radar at 4:54am

While storms were blowing through my location (causing me to shut internet access down due to very vivid lightning), a squall line has moved into the eastern parts of the state. Currently, that same squall line is moving through Clinton and the Quad Cities. Those storms will move into Illinois in the next 30-45 minutes. Other storms are firing along Interstate 80 corridor back west to near Omaha. A few of them have been severe, but warnings have since expired on them.

More storms, more heavy rain and the possibility of more severe weather exists for the rest of the morning hours today and even into this afternoon. There is a slight risk of severe weather for the eastern 2/3rds of the state, with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats. There is a moderate risk from the Mississippi River eastward through northern Illinois including the Chicago area, where there is a better chances of seeing tornadoes. This is likely (hopefully) the last day of this active period the state has been in for the last 2-3 weeks. Quieter weather will return on Thursday.
