* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR…
NORTHWESTERN UNION COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL IOWA…

* UNTIL 1130 PM CDT

* AT 533 PM CDT…TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. A TRAINED SPOTTER REPORTED THREE TO FOUR INCHES OF RAIN HAD ALREADY FALLEN IN ONLY A FEW HOURS…WITH ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINS IN PROGRESS.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE…CRESTON AND AREAS TO THE NORTH AND WEST.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF SMALL CREEKS AND STREAMS…HIGHWAYS AND UNDERPASSES. ADDITIONALLY…COUNTRY ROADS AND FARMLANDS ALONG THE BANKS OF CREEKS…STREAMS AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS ARE SUBJECT TO FLOODING.

FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED BRIDGES…DIPS… OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM… EVEN A SMALL ONE…ON FOOT OR IN A VEHICLE.
