A few popcorn type showers and thunderstorms have developed over parts of the state this afternoon. The storms around the Ames and Des Moines areas have already produced hail up to nickel sized (0.75in) and a few warnings have been issued there. Another batch of light to moderate showers was located in the western part of the state from Council Bluffs and Misssouri Valley NEward to near Denison. Another shower was located in SE Iowa from near Bloomfield to Fairfield. These storms will have the capability to produce very brief heavy rain, hail up to the size of a quarter and winds gusting to around 40-50mph. They are moving slowly to the east or northeast at betweeen 15-20mph. If you get under one, you may receieve a quick quarter to third of an inch of rain in less than ten minutes.
