Severe Weather Threat Thursday

Severe Weather Threat Friday

There is a slight risk of severe weather Thursday and Friday for most of the state of Iowa. On Thursday the threat exists in the western half of Iowa (except the NW). A cold front is expected to move into the state late on Thursday afternoon. Thunderstorms are expected to rapidly develop along the front with large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes possible. The biggest threat in Iowa will likely be in the southwestern part of the state.
On Friday, the threat shifts to the east and includes the eastern 2/3rds of the state with the main threats being large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. The biggest threat area looks to be in eastern Iowa for Friday. Like Thursday, thunderstorms are expected to develop along the advancing cold front. The severe weather threat is expected to wane after Midnight early on Saturday morning as the storms move into Illinois.
