Getting a Little Dry

Precipitation % through April 15th

Even with the little bit of rain that fell over the midwest, many locations are still below average for the year. A few locales are as much as 3-4 inches below average, with many between 1-2 inches down on average. 2010 has also been drier than 2009 in a number of locations as well, with Ottumwa down nearly 4 inches from last year, Burlington around 2.5 inches below average, Cedar Rapids almost 2 inches down, while a few have received a bit more rain YTD than last year at this time. Marshalltown, Mason City, Waterloo and Sioux City have received 1-1.5 inches more this year than last.

With dry weather through the middle to end of next week, these percentages will continue to drop and burn bans may be enacted across more of the state.
