With Spring just around the corner, severe weather will soon follow. It’s time for you the reader to take a guess as to when the state of Iowa will have its first Severe Thunderstorm Warning of the year. Pick the date and what county you think it will be issued for. Also we will guess when the first TORNADO WARNING will be issued in the state of Iowa for the year (hopefully none, but that’s likely not going to happen) and what county it will be issued for.

The earliest Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for a county in Iowa since 2002 was on January 2nd, 2006 in Decatur County. The latest the first Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued in any county in Iowa was on April 15th 2003 in Page County. The Average first Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued in a county in Iowa since 2002 is March 22nd (compiled from NWS Warning Data via the IEM)
