All of Iowa, Winter Weather

Snow Continues

The Winter Weather Advisory is still in effect until Noon for Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie and Shelby counties and until 6pm for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, OBrien, Osceola, Sioux, Plymouth, Woodbury, Adair, Adams, Audubon, Carroll, Cass, Crawford, Guthrie, Ringgold, Sac, Taylor and Union counties. Snow totals have been light across the western part of the state this morning, with amounts generally under 2 inches. The heaviest total of 3.3 inches came from downtown Omaha. The heaviest snow will fall in the western part of the state, with storm totals of 3-5 inches with isolated heavier totals possible. Further to the east snow accumulations will be rather limited with drier air in the upper levels. Accumulations will be under an inch to the north of I-80, while to the south a 1-3 inch snowfall is possible with the heaviest totals closer to the Missouri border. There is a slight chance especially in extreme SE Iowa of some snow mixing with sleet for a time.

The snow will move out later tonight with only a few scattered flurries likely on Saturday. Temperatures will be in the 20s to around 30 through the weekend before the next storm moves in early next week. Another 1-3 inch or more snowfall is forecast Monday into Tuesday. After that another outbreak of bitterly cold weather will sweep into the state for the rest of the upcoming week. Highs will likely struggle into the teens with nighttime lows in the single digits above and below zero.
