THE TOTAL SNOWFALL FOR THIS DECEMBER THROUGH THE 26TH IS 32.4 INCHES AT SIOUX CITY. THIS BREAKS THE PREVIOUS DECEMBER MONTHLY RECORD OF 26.4 INCHES IN 1897.

THE SNOWFALL OF 8.0 INCHES ON CHRISTMAS DAY WAS THE SNOWIEST CHRISTMAS ON RECORD. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 6.0 INCHES IN 1996.

THE STORM TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 20.7 INCHES FROM THE EVENING OF
DECEMBER 23RD TO THE 26TH…RANKS IN THE TOP 3 SNOWSTORMS ON RECORD. THE BIGGEST STORM ON RECORD WAS 22.9 INCHES APRIL 9TH TO 10TH IN 1913. THE OTHER BIG AND MORE INTENSE STORM IN THE TOP 3 WAS THE 18.4 INCHES ON MARCH 15TH 2004.

ANOTHER 2.6 INCHES OF SNOW FELL AT THE DES MOINES AIRPORT
OVERNIGHT…BRINGING THE TOTAL FOR THE MONTH TO 27.7 INCHES. THIS BREAKS THE ALL TIME DES MOINES RECORD FOR DECEMBER SNOWFALL…WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY 26.9 SET IN 2000. THE 27.7 INCH TOTAL IS ALSO THE THIRD HIGHEST CALENDAR MONTH SNOWFALL ON RECORD FOR DES MOINES…ONLY BEHIND MARCH 1912 WITH 28.0 INCHES…AND JANUARY 1886 WITH 37.0 INCHES.

  1. I am having difficulty finding a record of the December 2009 and January 2010 snow falls in Sioux City, Iowa. I need a date and amount of snowfall for each date. This is important as a senior org. will pay me the money I paid out for snow removal.
