Christmas Week Storm 2009: Christmas Eve Morning Update

Here is an early morning update on the storm moving through the state.

At 3am this morning, most of the mixed precipitation was located along and north of US Hwy 20. With some snow falling in NW Iowa. Temperatures have warmed across the SE half of the state through the nighttime hours.

Road Conditions have improved slightly since last evening with no “Travel Not Advised” being reported on any of the major throughfares across the state. However, there are still mostly to completely covered conditions mainly north of US Hwy 20 across the state, with a few sporadic partly covered road conditions between US Hwy 20 down to US Hwy 30. All roads south of 30, are mainly wet.

The Flood Watches are still in effect until Friday morning in SC, SE and EC Iowa. A Flood Warning has been issued for the Chariton River near Chariton until Sunday. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect in SW, WC, NW, NC and NE Iowa through the holiday. Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect in between US Hwy 20 and US Hwy 30 across the state. 1700 Alliant Energy Customers remain without power early this morning. Mid-American Energy reports just over 1900 customers without power, mainly in the Waterloo and Sioux City areas.
