Christmas Week Storm 2009: Blizzard Warnings

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning in effect until 6am Saturday morning for the following counties, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, Monona and Shelby. Blizzard conditions will be likely across the southwestern portions of the state tonight and into Christmas Day. Snow amounts of 8-12 inches with isolated heavier amounts will be possible in these areas by Saturday morning. More blizzard warnings may be needed later tonight or tomorrow morning further to the northeast.

In addition the Winter Storm Watch has been cancelled in eastern Iowa. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from 6am Christmas Morning until 6am Saturday morning for the following counties, Appanoose, Davis, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Wapello and Wayne. Snow amounts of 3-6 inches with some higher amounts will be possible in these areas.
