Christmas Week Storm 2009: Upgrades and New Watches

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 3pm Wednesday afternoon until 6pm Christmas Night for the following counties, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, OBrien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for areas north of Interstate 80 and also in SW Iowa south of I-80. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued until tomorrow for numerous counties in western and northern Iowa. This also includes the Freezing Rain Advisory as well.

A Flood Watch has been issued from Noon Wednesday afternoon until 6pm Christmas night for the following counties, Benton, Buchanan, Cedar, Clinton, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Henry, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren and Washington.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS FROM 1.5 TO 2.5 INCHES WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT MAY LEAD TO FLOODING ALONG AREA RIVERS. FLOODING OF URBAN AND SMALL STREAM DRAINAGES WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE DUE TO BLOCKAGES FROM SNOW AND ICE.

RISING WATER LEVELS MAY ALSO LEAD TO POTENTIAL ICE JAMS ON AREA RIVERS.

More upgrades, watches, warnings and advisories will likely be issued as the storm draws closer.
