Christmas Week Storm 2009: The First Watches Issued

A Winter Storm Watch beginning at Midnight Wednesday and lasting through 6pm Christmas Eve for the following counties, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie and Shelby. A Winter Storm Watch has also been issued beginning at Noon on Wednesday and lasting until 6pm Christmas Night for the following counties, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, OBrien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury.

* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 10 TO 20 INCHES WILL BE
POSSIBLE WITH THIS STORM WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS LIKELY ACROSS NORTHWEST IOWA.

* WIND AND VISIBILITY…NORTHEAST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH CAN BE
EXPECTED WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY AND INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH OUT OF THE NORTH THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. THE WIND COMBINED WITH THE SNOW MAY REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES.

Other Watches are expected to be issued later this afternoon and tonight for the rest of the state.
