Christmas Week Storm 2009: More Watches

A Winter Storm Watch has now been issued beginning at Noon Wednesday and lasting through 6pm Christmas Day for the following counties, Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell and Winneshiek. A Winter Storm Watch has also been issued from 6am Wednesday morning through 6pm Christmas Day for the following counties, Benton, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones, Linn, Adair, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Calhoun, Carroll, Cass, Crawford, Dallas, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Marshall, Pocahontas, Polk, Sac, Story, Tama, Webster, Wright, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Franklin, Hancock, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Winnebago and Worth.
There is also a Winter Weather Advisory in effect tonight through early tomorrow morning in NC and NE Iowa for the storm moving through this evening. 1-4 inches of snow will be possible tonight in those areas with the heaviest snow close to the Iowa Minnesota border.

In relation to the storm at Mid-Week, Snow amounts of 4 to as much as 8 inches will be possible in the Watch areas, with amounts up to and possibly over a foot west of a line from Carroll to Mason City. There also will be at least a quarter inch of freezing rain and sleet, mainly in the southeastern half of the state.

Warnings will likely be issued tomorrow as the storm moves closer to the state.
