6 Days in SOCAL: The Boarding and reboarding of United Flight 20

Getting up at 5am to take the rental car back and get to the airport at 5:45 was not fun. Like yesterday, there was no marine layer as a weak Santa Ana wind had developed on Thursday which caused temperatures to soar close to 100 degrees in the Inland Empire and San Fernando Valley (Where we were Thursday). We took off under sunny skies out of Los Angeles and briefly went out over the Pacific Ocean, where the Marine layer was in full boar and then circled around and headed off to the Mile High City of Denver. This is where the day got crazy. We arrived at Denver a little early only to find the gate we were supposed to be at not available because a plane was still there. After finally getting off and eating lunch we headed to our connecting flight to Des Moines, United Flight 20. We got on the plane (on time a little before 1pm MDT) when we sat down, there was action going on at the right wing of the plane. Lots of pointing by the United people including the pilot of the flight. Then we were told there was a fuel leak problem on the plane, but not to worry we were going to be told what was going to happen soon. Ten minutes later, we’re told to get off the plane. We get off the plane and head back into the terminal to then be told not 5 steps off the jetbridge that we were going to be reboarding again as they had fixed the problem. This led to some to roll eyes, but the flight finally took off (only 40 minutes late) and arrived at Des Moines about the same amount of time late as well. Now I’m back home, with my sunburn (from Monday at Catalina) finally starting to peel, being glad that I don’t have to go through the traffic jams and whatnot again, possibly for the rest of my life.
