The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather outlined for the state for areas south of US Hwy 18 for Wednesday and Wednesday night. The main threats with any thunderstorms that develop will be large hail and damaging winds and even a few isolated tornadoes. There is likely to be an early round of thunderstorms moving into western Iowa later this morning, these will not be severe. Later in the afternoon, depending on how much daytime heating can occur after any early rain, will cause thunderstorms to develop along a cold front that will be moving into the state. Most of the severe weather will be out of the state by Midnight or so, with only light to moderate rain continuing into Thursday. Heavy rain is possible with these storms with the heaviest totals likely to occur south of Interstate 80.
