A Dozen Twisters

This is from the NWS in Des Moines regarding the “outbreak” of brief tornadoes on Sunday.

…TWELVE TORNADOES OCCURRED NEAR HIGHWAY 20 ON SUNDAY…

A FIRST REVIEW OF SPOTTER REPORTS…PHOTOS AND RADAR DATAINDICATES THAT TWELVE SHORT-LIVED TORNADOES OCCURRED SUNDAYAFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING WITHIN THE NWS DES MOINES AREA OFRESPONSIBILITY. CONTACTS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCYMANAGERS DISCLOSED THAT ONLY ONE STRUCTURE WAS DAMAGED…SO THENWS IN DES MOINES DID NOT CONDUCT A FORMAL SURVEY. OTHERTORNADOES MAY HAVE OCCURRED IN THE NWS QUAD CITIES AREA OFRESPONSIBILITY…AND THAT OFFICE SHOULD BE CONTACTED FORADDITIONAL INFORMATION.THE ONLY DAMAGE REPORTED WAS ONE MILE WEST OF DIKE…WHERE THEROOF WAS TORN OFF A HOG CONFINEMENT BUILDING. BASED UPONPHOTOS…THIS DAMAGE WILL BE RATED EF-1. THAT TORNADO TRACKED FOR2 MILES. ANOTHER TORNADO PRODUCED AN INTERMITTENT TRACK FROM 2MILES SOUTH OF WELLSBURG TO 3 MILES WEST OF HOLLAND. A DEBRISCLOUD WAS REPORTED WITH THIS TORNADO…BUT NO STRUCTURES WERE HIT.THE REMAINDER OF THE TORNADOES…BEGINNING NEAR KAMRAR IN HAMILTONCOUNTY JUST BEFORE 5 PM…WERE ALL VERY BRIEF AND AGAIN PRODUCED NOSTRUCTURAL DAMAGE.
