Slight Risk Weekend

There is a slight risk of severe weather for both Saturday and Sunday for most of the state. A cold front moving through the state this afternoon may touch off an isolated shower or thunderstorm. These aren’t expected to be severe. The front will stall tonight into Saturday and begin retreating northward as a warm front. Thunderstorms will fire along the front Saturday and Sunday. The main threats this weekend will be large hail and damaging winds. Tornadoes can’t be ruled out either. There is also the threat of heavy rain, most of which will fall in the northern part of the state and into southern Minnesota, where they have a rainfall defecit this year. Temperatures this weekend will depend highly on frontal position. North of the front, temperatures will be in the 60s, south of the front temperatures will be in the 70s to around 80. Cooler weather will return early next week with highs falling back into the 60s to around 70 and nighttime lows dropping into the 40s to around 50.
