A Flash Flood Watch has been issued beginning at 1am tonight and expiring at 1pm Tuesday afternoon for the following counties, Appanoose, Clarke, Davis, Decatur, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Wapello and Wayne.
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHEAST IOWA LATER TONIGHT AND CONTINUE INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS TUESDAY. GENERAL ONE TO TWO INCH RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED IN THE WATCH AREA…WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
RAINFALL RATES MAY REACH OR EXCEED AN INCH PER HOUR IN THE HEAVIER DOWNPOURS. RUNOFF FROM THE RAINFALL SHOULD BE QUITE HIGH DUE TO MOIST GROUNDS FROM RECENT RAINS…AND THE LACK OF ACTIVE VEGETATION.
* IF RAINS OF THIS MAGNITUDE MATERIALIZE…RAPID RISES IN SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS MAY OCCUR LEADING TO FLASH FLOODING AND CONSIDERABLE PONDING WATER ON ROADS. MINOR FLOODING IN LARGER RIVERS MAY OCCUR AS WELL.
