Thursdays snowstorm report.

Big snowdrift in our Front yard.

A strong system pushed though the area on Thursday. it seemed like it took a while for the snow to start, but once it did it got heavy, and it got heavy fast. To me, this storm seemed like a spring like snowstorm, because the snow was wet-like in nature. The snow started in the afternoon, it started off as some light snow but it quickly turned into very heavy snow, falling at an inch per hour for a time. During the most intense part of the storm at about 2PM Thunder rumbled across much of Polk, Barron, St Croix and Dunn counties, and I heard the first Thunder of the season here in Clayton. ( more about the Thundersnow below ) winds across the entire area were blowing to near 30MPH at times out of the northeast, which made many tall drifts. The one in the picture above was 2 feet deep. Most places had between 6 and just of 8 inches of snow. Here is a list of the reports This photo here was taken During the Thundersnow. I heard 2 Rumbles of Thunder during this system. I heard the first one at 2:00PM, I was out shoveling snow, when I heard a very long distance thunder, which I found was Very nice to hear! I was watching The radar, and it appeared that the Thunder was from a strike that was in Northern Pierce County which is about 30 miles south of here. this means that there was likely Thunder all across St Croix,Dunn and Polk and Barron counties. Then just before 3PM I heard and felt two loud rumbles of Thunder, from inside the house, I quickly ran to the door and I opened it just in time to hear Crackling Thunder. Then I checked it out of the radar and This strike was much closer. It was directly south of our house and it appeared to be centered over the St Croix County, Polk County line. which is 7 and a half miles south of here. This means that likely most of the 6 county area go Thunder. Dirk in Rice Lake also reported Thundersnow and even a Thunderstorm at his location. Watching the strikes on Radar and seeing much of the lightning in Peirce and St Croix Counties I would definitely believe that just about everyone got Thundersnow in Polk Barron Dunn and St Croix Counties. probably even southern Burnett and Washburn continuities!
here is a photo showing the wet-like nature that the snow was. Today Expect Sunshine, it wont feel too bad without the wind but highs will be only in the teens. it will warm up more tomorrow more on this in a bit.

  1. Excellent recap D! It was a fun storm to say the least! The snowflakes were gigantic. No Thundersnow witnessed by me. Earlier in the day I was thinking that down here we’d only get liquid from how the radar looked. But, alas, the frozen precip came. I have never in my life seen it sleet as heavy as it did yesterday. Craziness.

You’ve got a good base now. Hopefully a few more snowstorms can roll through and give you a good Spring melt down!

  2. we had has average snow fall now with this storm! it was wet-like so so I would definitely call is a spring snowstorm. I actually hope it melts away and stays gone, lol I’m ready for spring! but March can bring some big snowstorms, thanks for commenting!
