Slightly cooler air has moved in today, but it is still above average for the year across the state. Temperatures at mid-afternoon were between 15-20 degrees cooler than yesterday with readings mainly in the 30s and 40s. Record Highs were set yesterday at Moline IL and Burlington, with Burlington smashing their old record by 8 degrees with a high of 66°. As a result of the warmer weather has come flooding. There are flood warnings for the South Skunk River at Oskaloosa and the Iowa River at Marengo that will be in effect at least through Tuesday. All attention is being paid now to the next storm which will move into the state later tonight. A few sprinkles are already being detected on radar in SW Iowa but no stations are reporting precip. Temperatures tonight will settle to around freezing and then begin to rise through sunrise. Some areas may see the precip start out as Freezing rain, especially north of US Hwy 30 before it switches to all rain. There is still a good chance for Thunderstorms on Monday as the storm moves closer. Severe Weather chances appear minimal as there isn’t enough instability in the atmosphere to produce supercells, however an isolated low-topped thunderstorm could produce up to pea-marble sized hail and wind gusts up to 40 mph. Don’t be surprised if a warning or two might be issued tomorrow. Temperatures tomorrow will be about 10-20 degrees warmer than today with highs in the 40s and 50s.
