Snow vs No Snow

Temperatures across the state at midday showed where there is and isn’t a whole lot of snow on the ground. Mason City reported a temperature of only 16 at Noon while Chariton and Centerville in the southern part of the state was at 50. Temperatures will struggle to get to freezing today north of US Hwy 20 while it will likely be in the 30s between US Hwy 20 and Interstate 80, with a few 40s where there is a smaller snowpack and south of the Interstate temperatures will run in the 40s and 50s. Another push of cold arctic air is expected to make a return to the state tomorrow pushing temperatures back down into the single digits and teens for highs and lows in the single digits above and below zero. The next big event of snow will be Sunday and Monday.
