At mid-afternoon locations in the northeastern part of the state have failed to crack 0. Cedar Rapids reported -8° at 2pm along with Mason City and Charles City. SW Iowa has warmed nicely, into the teens, with single digits elsewhere. Any snow that falls with the storm tonight will be very powdery snow (very little moisture content) thus any winds over 20mph will cause the snow to blow around, which could lead to whiteout conditions again in many rural areas tonight and tomorrow morning. Lows later this week could get very close to record lows for those dates. Many of the record lows are in the -20s.
