The storm is winding down at midday, with only a few snow showers possible in SE Iowa this afternoon with another batch of moisture to the SW. Most of the precip in the south and southeast stayed as either rain or freezing rain before switching to snow. There was little if any accumulation of snow in these areas. Further north however, the snow amounts were much larger. New Hampton reported 8.5 inches, Decorah 8.8 inches, Algona 8 inches, Ringsted 7 inches, Dorchester 7.8 inches. A more detailed report will come later today. Freezing rain amounts were generally from a tenth to a quarter inch of ice, with some amounts over that.
Colder weather is moving quickly in, as temperatures in NW Iowa have fallen into the teens with wind chills below zero. The sky has also cleared there as well. With a fresh snow cover (especially north) temperatures will plummet down to at or below zero this evening across the state with warmer readings where there either is no snow on the ground or no new snow fell from this storm.
