This will be a challenging day in the state. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Emmet, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Winnebago, Worth, Bremer, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, Wright, Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Floyd, Chickasaw, Fayette and Clayton counties until Tuesday evening. This is likely where the heaviest snow will fall from this storm. Accumulations of 4-8 inches will be possible with this storm in the warned areas. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect elsewhere. Some counties have been added to the watch area. A Change to a Winter Weather Advisory or a Winter Storm Warning could happen at anytime this morning or early this afternoon.
Some light freezing drizzle is occurring in SE Iowa this morning. Roads may become slick as temperatures continue to rise close to the freezing point. The precip may change to all rain south of Interstate 80 and east of US Hwy 63, or south and east of Grinnell. Snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain will be possible throughout the day in the state, with the precip switching to all snow later tonight. Temperatures will remain below freezing mainly north of US Hwy 20, so the precip there will stay as snow when it begins, while south of US Hwy 20, it may begin briefly as snow and switch to sleet and freezing rain, then further south may switch to all rain before switching back to all snow.
Travel may become hazardous later today, so if you have to travel today, be very cautious and slow down.
