Getting Colder

Tonight, lows will drop into the single digits above and below zero in most of the state with a snow pack over 1 inch. Elsewhere lows will be in the upper single digits and lower teens (mainly SW Iowa), but a much colder outbreak of air is expected by next week.gfs168hr_sfc_temp
Here is a model of the projected temperatures at 6am Thursday Morning December 11th. It shows temperatures below zero east of a Mason City to Davenport line, with some readings in the Tri State region around Dubuque getting close to -10°. Southwest Iowa should escape this cold spell with lows in the low teens. This will be behind a storm system that is expected at mid-week that could dump more snow, and that doesn’t even include the storm tomorrow night into Saturday that could dump 1-3 inches in part of the state. Another week of cold and snowy weather to come for the state, and it’s techinically not even winter yet!
