Epic Surge, Eastern Iowa’s unstoppable Flood of 2008 is a book by the Gazette (of Cedar Rapids). I recieved my copy today and went through it. The pictures speak for themselves. Numerous shots of the city of Cedar Rapids underwater. Homes destroyed and sandbagging efforts. Very little is said as they let the pictures tell the story. The grief of the victims, the damage left behind, the cleanup that is yet ongoing. For someone who has lived in this area all my life, it’s very hard to see how the river could ever have gone as high as it did. These pictures bring what happened back in June back to light. I give this book an A and it’s a must have for anyone, but you don’t have to take my word for it.
