Storms from Overhead

As I was flying back to Des Moines today, I witnessed numerous thunderstorms from the plane. Many people on the ground would not have been able to see the huge thunderheads and anvils protruding from the overcast skies south of Iowa. The ride was so smooth it wasn’t until I got home that I realized we had flown over one storm near Kansas City and hadn’t felt a thing. (we were about 40K feet up). It’s interesting to look at features not only from the ground, but from the sky as well. Seeing storms miles away and how they compare to their surroundings is just plain cool.

As for this storm system I flew through today, it is expected to stick around at least through Wednesday as it slowly moves through the area. It had started raining as I was driving back home around 5pm. Rainfall amounts will approach an inch in most locations from this storm.
