All of Iowa

Mid Morning Look

Showers and Thunderstorms are moving through the western part of the state at this time (9am), along a line extending from Algona to Rockwell City to Omaha. These showers and storms are moving to the east at 25 mph or so. Earlier storms that were in eastern Iowa and brought some rain have moved into Wisconsin and Illinois.

The latest 5 Day rainfall forecastshows that Ike’s moisture will stay south of the state but over running from a storm system this weekend is likely to bring copious amounts to the state with 1-2 inch totals with isolated 3 inch amounts. This is dependent on Hurricane Ike however. A slight shift to the north by 100 miles could move the heaviest rainfall amounts into Iowa.

In relation to Gustav that skirted Iowa earlier this month, according to most of the models, Ike should be about 50-100 miles south of where Gustav was. This is due to change as well.
