Drier air has moved into the state today. Dewpoints are in the 50s mainly with a few low 60 dewpoints scattered around. Temperatures at midday were in the mid to upper 70s with a few low 80s. Cool nights are ahead with lows expected in the 50s each night through the weekend.
According to model output, a storm system will try to move into Iowa on Tuesday but will get shunted around a high pressure system that will build across the midwest. This same high pressure will be the one that might decide where Tropical Storm (soon to be Hurricane) Gustav will go. Wednesday looks to be the next best chance of rain with a cold front finally getting the upper hold.
Out into the unknown, models do show a significant cool down in mid September, possibly lows in the upper 30s? still unclear at this time.
