After historic, biblical flooding in May and June, the spicket has been off most of August in Iowa. Rainfall deficits in August in Iowa are over an inch below average across the state with some areas getting close to 2 inches down for the month. However for the year most areas are still over 10 inches over average for the year. However, this time of year a 1/2 inch of rain a week is what is needed to keep the crops going. A dry month like this would be needed at harvest when farmers don’t want much rain so they can get out and harvest.
