Slight Risk Thursday

There is a slight risk for severe weather for Thursday for the northern part of Iowa. This is mainly north of a line from Sioux City to Newton to the Quad Cities. This would include places like Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Fort Dodge, Spencer and Mason City. The threats will be large hail and damaging winds and brief tornadoes. There is a higher liklihood for very large hail today, bigger than golf balls, this is mainly confined to areas around and just north of Mason City. The best chances are closer to the Minnesota border where a stationary front is situated. The storms will ride along the front into Iowa, mainly in the evening and overnight hours of Thursday night into Friday, however thunderstorms may develop ahead of that time frame, but the chances are that these storms will be evening through overnight storms. An MCS moving through North Dakota may end up causing the severe threats to change given cloudiness that may erode any chances for severe weather occurring in a given area.
